Ghosts of Girlfriends Past

by Ambere Riggs

A modern day, romantic comedy version of “A Christmas Carol” teaches Connor Mead, played by Matthew McConaughey, the errors of his womanizing past and how it’ll lose him the love of his life should he stay on that path. GHOSTS OF GIRLFRIENDS PAST has big name actors, humor for everyone, and great chemistry between the characters.

This movie has a blockbuster cast that does more than have their name on the poster to get viewers to come to the movie; their acting is great.  McConaughey’s Connor Mead is a womanizer who loves to drink. When watching the movie, the viewer can tell that he really is feeling everything that his character is feeling. The way he acts and transforms is outstanding. He stars opposite Jennifer Garner who plays Jenny Perotti, the woman Connor has loved since he was a kid. Whenever Jenny cries, laughs, or smiles in the movie, Jennifer Garner takes what her character feels to heart. The viewer gets extremely attached to her character and sides with her until Connor goes through his major transformation.

Normally romantic comedies would only have humor that would appeal to women, but GHOSTS OF GIRLFRIENDS PAST manages to include humor for guys as well. Whenever he sees a ghost, Connor’s first response is to have another drink. As he gets his drink many events transpire that can only make things worse. To find out what happens and how he redeems himself, one would have to watch the movie and enjoy the hilarity of what happens.

Between the characters themselves, there is an abundance of chemistry that enhances the story line further. There is plenty of tension between Jenny and Connor. The viewer can tell, even before anyone speaks, that they have a history and that their history will play into their future. Their past has made Connor who he is, which is the whole point of the story. The fact that the two characters can convey the tension created by their past shows the strength of it and how far Connor has to go to become a decent guy.

Great acting, chemistry, and humor take this “Christmas Carol” to a whole new level and time. GHOSTS OF GIRLFRIENDS PAST is a noteworthy movie that anyone would enjoy. It would be great on a family movie night, a date, or even just a fun flick to watch with friends whether they be guys or girls. This story is one that hits home no matter what.
