Dance Flick
by Ambere Riggs
Crazy turns and laughs make DANCE FLICK go round about once. DANCE FLICK takes the most notable dance scenes from some of the best dance movies and puts a major comical spin on them. This film follows in the footsteps of others in its class such as THE DATE MOVIE and SCARY MOVIE with its twisted comedy, mixture of content and ridiculous acting.
DANCE FLICK covers every major type of joke out there. Some of these are more noticeable while others are buried a bit. The movie covers the whole range from racial humor to sexual humor to the just plain nasty humor that so many teens, specifically guys, seem to enjoy. The comedy starts off strong in the beginning but seems to dwindle as the movie progresses.
Just as this movie’s predecessors combine multiple movies to create a completely new movie, DANCE FLICK combines many dance movies to create the ultimate dance mockery. The two main movies that the story line is derived from are YOU GOT SERVED and SAVE THE LAST DANCE. There also dance scenes from HAIRSPRAY, DIRTY DANCING, and HIGH SCHOOL MUSICAL. There is definitely a diverse selection of dance movies from which the scenes were chosen.
Also to go along with movies similar to DANCE FLICK, the characters are ridiculous. The actors do their job well, but the characters that they have to play represent possibly the stupidest personas that could be created. It’s as if the characters have absolutely no common sense and no heart. The characters serve their purpose, and the actors do them the non-justice they deserve.
DANCE FLICK meets the standards that has been set by the specific genre created for type of movie that just makes fun of other movies. Its humor would be considered repulsive and vulgar by most people and the characters would make most people mad with their idiocy, but still people watch it. The dance scenes depicted in DANCE FLICK were originally great scenes, and, lucky for the creators, this movie isn’t able to ruin them. It does, however, provide and alternative view of them for the entertainment of some teenagers.
